On November 4, 2023, Willimantic Lodge held their annual veteran’s luncheon. During this lunch, Giochino “Jack” Carchidi who is 101 years old and a World War II veteran received his Quilt of Valor.
The Quilt of Valor was established when a mother made a quilt for her soldier son who served during wartime. The mother felt that all servicemen and women should feel the warmth and love of a quilt. Jack was nominated by his son for the Quilt of Valor. The quilt was made by the Niantic Chapter and presented to Jack during the luncheon at Willimantic Lodge.
Jack served in the US Army from 1941-1946 and was stationed in France and Germany during World War II. Jack was part of the 111th Combat Engineers, 36th Infantry Division for Advancing Troops who have an occupation in Combat Zones. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1946.
Jack has been a valued member of Willimantic Lodge for the past 65 years. Willimantic Lodge continues to recognize our Veterans while supporting our national motto “So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them”.
