The
Connecticut kids faired well at the New England Regional “Hoop
Shoot” Contest on March 27. Five of the six shooters from our
state came home with trophies.
Bob and Pat Hansen, Jim Desmarais,
Dan and Celia Skiba, George Gilhuly and John and Jennifer Romano all
joined the State Director, making the trip to Portland Maine and
having a very enjoyable weekend.
John Romano’s loyalty was rewarded by
watching his Wethersfield/Rocky Hill entrants, 11 year old Kathleen
Y. and 13 year old Morgan D., take home second place runner up
trophies. Nine year old Madelyn H. from Enfield also took home the
silver. All these contests were determined by the difference of a
single basket scored.
Jason V., shooting for Torrington
Lodge won the bronze, third place trophy in the boys’ 10-11 group.
Alex P. from Danbury
(Pictured above with State President Dan Skiba)
will go on to the National Contest in
Springfield, competing on April 24, 2010. He won the 8-9 Year old
boys’ trophy, and won it in style. He did it by scoring 25 out of
25 shots. By doing so he also won the newly created Amos A.
McCallum Trophy for shooting a perfect score.
We can all applaud Alex by sending
him a congratulatory e-mail and showing him our support in his
efforts at the Nationals. Visit
www.elks.org/hoopshoot/greetings.cfm on the internet, scroll
down to New England Region, click on his name (8-9 boys) and send
him your encouragement. Let’s fill the book that will be presented
to him upon his arrival in Springfield.
